Cron UTC to PST

Convert cron job schedules from UTC to PST timezone.

Timezone Offset

-8 hours

UTC (UTC+0) → PST (UTC-8)

Conversion Examples

To run a job at a specific UTC time, use the PST expression below:

Target time (UTC) Cron in PST Equivalent PST time
Midnight UTC0 16 * * *4 PM (previous day)
9 AM UTC0 1 * * *1 AM
Noon UTC0 4 * * *4 AM
5 PM UTC0 9 * * *9 AM

How to Use

If your server runs in PST but you want jobs to execute at UTC times:

  1. Take your desired UTC hour
  2. Subtract 8 hours
  3. If result is negative, add 24 (job runs previous day)
  4. If result is 24 or more, subtract 24 (job runs next day)

Important Notes

  • Standard cron has no timezone support - it uses the server's local time
  • Day boundaries: When converting crosses midnight, the day also changes
  • DST: Consider daylight saving time - offsets may change by 1 hour seasonally
  • Kubernetes & cloud platforms: Many support explicit timezone configuration
